despite his discreet nature, his return to the forefront of the team has not gone unnoticed. His name has already been mentioned several times on television shows this month: “André Gomes, we haven’t seen him like this in a long time. When he’s in this form, he’s indispensable as Benjamin André’s right-hand man […] He’s simply an exceptional player,” said Ludovic Obraniak recently on La Chaîne L’Équipe.
With four games left to play in the championship, everything is still possible in the race for the podium, and the LOSC (currently 5th with 53 points) will rely on André Gomes’ experience to navigate through the challenging waters ahead. His teammate Hakon Haraldsson praised his skills recently: “He plays a lot and he plays well. He’s a very talented player with the ball […] He’s been playing in big clubs like Barcelona for a reason, he’s really important for us.”
Bruno Genesio, the LOSC coach, also highlighted André Gomes’ qualities: “He brings a lot of technical mastery to our team in the final third. He’s capable of delivering key passes and has a high work rate […] They form a complementary duo with Benjamin André.” When asked about his decision to bench André Gomes earlier this season, Genesio replied: “It’s not me who put him on the bench. As coaches, we make choices based on what we see. The player holds the key.”
Will André Gomes be relied upon again at Angers? We’ll have to wait and see.
