Lyon ensures Merah's future and prepares for Olympico

Olympique Lyonnais (OL) strengthened its workforce by extending the contract of Khalis Merah, a promising young midfielder, until 2029. This player, born in 2007 and arrived at the Lyon Academy at the age of 9, quickly became a key element of the team, appreciated by supporters for its deep Lyon identity and potential. After a successful season in National 3 and appearances in Ligue 1, he signed an official extension, confirming his commitment to the club and his willingness to flourish in Lyon. This decision, praised by the fans, reflects OL’s confidence in Merah’s talent and his vision for the future of the team.

At the same time, the club faced departures and loans for financial reasons. Saël Kumbedi, right side, accepted a paying loan to the VfL Wolfsburg, a decision motivated by the need for OL to reduce their spending and comply with the rules of the National Football Development Directorate (DNCF). Although Kumbedi managed to integrate into the Lyon team, he was not considered an indisputable holder. His departure, with a purchase option for the German club, represents a financial opportunity for OL, while leaving a gap in the defensive sector.

In preparation for the next match against Olympique de Marseille (Olympico), the Lyon team focused on training. The session was marked by the gradual return of Orel Mangaalaa, a midfielder wounded for several months, who participates in exercises to regain his full level. In addition, OL was banned from rallying their supporters in Lyon for the match against Marseille, due to the risk of public order disturbances and the history of tensions between the two groups of supporters. Despite these challenges, the team is preparing to face the Olympique de Marseille with determination, hoping to take advantage of the absence of opposing supporters to encourage their players.
