Mediawan ensures the production of rights for French football matches

Mediawan was selected by French football authorities to take over the production of national football rights. This decision gives the company full control over the four lots involved in the competition. An important point of this agreement is the launch of the Ligue 1 platform, scheduled for 15 August, the date of the recovery of the championship, thus ensuring the continuity of the diffusion of the matches. Personalities such as Xavier Domergue and Samir Nasrri are being considered to join this new channel, demonstrating Mediawan’s ambition in this area.

Mediawan’s choice is also influenced by personal and professional ties between the managers of the two companies. Frรฉdรฉric de Vincelles, Managing Director of Mediawan, maintains close relations with Nicolas de Tavernost, Managing Director of LFPMedia. In addition, Pierre-Antoine Capton, Mediawan’s boss, is friends with Vincent Labrune, a leading figure in French football. These connections may have played a role in the final decision, although the former President of the Olympique de Marseille did not participate in the decisive meeting to avoid any suspicion of favouritism.

It should be noted that Vincent Labrun’s absence from the decision-making meeting is significant, stressing the desire to ensure the impartiality of the selection process. This situation highlights the importance of maintaining full transparency in the allocation of broadcasting rights, in order to avoid accusations of conflict of interest. Mediawan’s selection is therefore a major turning point in the broadcast of French football, with potential implications for the quality and scope of game coverage.
