Khusanov: City held back by its competitors

Khusanov, ex-Lensois at Manchester City Bank: a braked return to power?

The arrival of Abdukodir Khusanov in Manchester City last winter, for a transfer estimated at 50 million euros, had aroused a lot of enthusiasm. Titled in his first match against Chelsea, the young Uzbek defender had quickly shown his qualities, despite an initial malice. For several weeks, Pep Guardiola had granted him numerous tenures in the Premier League, allowing him to reveal himself.

However, since a match against Brighton where he had scored against his camp, Khusanov no longer played in the championship. Facing Leicester, he was absent. Then he was confined to the role of replacement in the meetings against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Everton.

The question arises: what is the reason for this decline in activity? It is likely that Abdukodir Khusanov is a victim of the return of Josko Gvardiol, who is now mainly on the left side of the defence. In addition, the return of Manuel Akanji, who has been absent since early February due to an injury to the adductors, complicates the situation.

Khusanov will therefore clearly have to raise the cursor to try to re-enter the first Citizen team, especially since the club was no longer defeated. Despite the high demands of the very high level, it is important to remember that the 21-year-old defender has previously evolved in Belarus until July 2023.
