ASSE: recruitment challenges and future loyalty

The AS Saint-Étienne is going through an important transition period, marked by the end of several contracts in June 2026 and the growing interest in clubs for some of its players. The club must therefore anticipate its recruitment and retention strategies to avoid significant losses in the transfer market. Several departures are planned, including those of Dylan Batubinsika and Yvann Macoon, while the situations of Benjamin Bouchouaari and Pierre Ekwah require rapid resolution. Lucas Staassin, a promising young attacker, is particularly courted by clubs like Rennes and Paris FC, although the ASSE remains inflexible on his departure before winter. In parallel, the club secures the future of key players such as Gautier Larsonneur, João Ferreira, Mahmoud Jaber and Zuriko Davitashvili, who form the backbone of the team.

Several ASSE players are currently in the national selection during the international truce. Zuriko Davitashvili is called with Georgia for World Cup playoffs 2026, while Ben Old represents New Zealand. Mahmoud Jaber returned to training after an initial concern about an injury, which is a relief for the club. Other players, such as Dylan Batubinsika, are in selection with the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Lucas Staassin with the Belgian Hopes. Irvin Cardona was selected with Malta, and Strahinja Stojković with Serbia’s U19 team. These absences are an opportunity for other players to show up and gain experience.

The team’s future depends on a balance between the experience of key players and the emergence of young talent. Nadir El Jamali, Luan Gadegbeku, Joshua Duffuss and Chico Lamba extended their contracts until 2028, and Lassana Traoré and Strahinja Stojkovic represent bets for the future. The club must also manage the current contracts of players such as Djylian N’Guessa, Cardona, Boakye and Moueffek, whose future will depend on the team’s sporting prospects. The recruitment unit is active and aims to attract new talent to replace potential departures and strengthen the workforce. This policy reflects the desire of ASSE to build a coherent sport project and to find a place of choice in Ligue 1.
