Montpellier in crisis: a premature departure of Laurent Nicollin and a humiliating defeat against the OM
Montpellier – The disappointment suffered this Saturday evening at home against the Olympique de Marseille (5-1) highlighted the deep difficulties of the MHSC, currently Ligue 1 red lantern. The most significant event of the evening, however, is the premature departure of its president, Laurent Nicollin, from the Vélodrome stadium before the final whistle.
In an attempt to reverse the situation, the Montpellieran club called on former international defender, Zumana Camara, to prepare for the reconstruction and put an end to this downward spiral. Despite a semblance of improvement in the state of mind, Camara’s team failed to contain OM domination, marked by the goals of Greenwood (8’, 60’) and Rowe (74’). Rabiot also scored for the Marseilles (90’).
The departure of Laurent Nicollin, relayed by DAZN, occurred while OM led 3-0. According to reports, President Montpellieran left the Vélodrome before the end of the game, joining the parking lot to return home. This event comes a week after an explosive statement in the defeat against Angers, where Nicollin had expressed his discontent with some players and announced a new approach based on “healthy people” and not on players “just there for their face”.
The atmosphere at La Paillade is therefore particularly heavy and looks heavy until the end of the season. The tense climate, exacerbated by the premature departure of its president, suggests only difficulties for the MHSC.
