Marseille Olympic Games: Transfers and sporting issues in perspective

The Olympique de Marseille continues to monitor closely the situation of Harry Maguire, the English defender of Manchester United, despite the club’s willingness to keep him. OM is one of the clubs interested in the 32-year-old player, whose contract with Manchester United runs until 2026. Although Manchester United rejected several offers this summer, the leaders of the country want to retain Maguire, considered an important part of Erik ten Hag’s team and now part of the Ruben Amorim group of leaders. OM’s interest in Maguire is, however, theoretical at the moment, given its high salary and the possibility of free departure in the medium term.

At the same time, OM was interested in the Kosovar winger Don Zhegrova, but some observers such as Kevin Diaz expressed doubts as to its compatibility with the Olympique de Marseille project. Diaz believes that Zhegrova could have more success in a less demanding club, and that he might have difficulty integrating into the OM’s gaming system, particularly in terms of defensive discipline. Despite this, the Zhegrova file appears to be active on the Marseille side, as part of a strengthening of the attack.

Finally, voices are rising to advise against the sale of Mason Greenwood, the key player of the team, in times of European dynamics and increased revenues. Yacine Youssfi warns against the risk of compromising the credibility of OM’s sports project and destabilizing the entire organization by assigning a talented player. He stressed that participation in an ambitious European competition was a key attractive factor for players and that long-term financial stability was preferable to immediate financial gain.
