Stade Rennais continues its policy of renewing its staff with the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi, who leaves the club to join Birmingham City in England. This decision comes after several other important departures, including Lorenz Assignon, Adrien Truffertet and Albert Gronbaek. The Japanese striker, who arrived in Rennes only six months ago, failed to establish himself as a key player, partly because of a shoulder injury and limited play time. His visit to Brittany offered only one participation in six games for a total of 120 minutes.
Furuhashi had been recruited with great expectations, after having impressed Celtic Glasgow, where he scored 85 goals and delivered 19 assists in 165 matches all over the competition. His experience and talent were considered valuable assets to strengthen the Rennes attack. However, he failed to fully integrate into the game system and win in the team, despite the ambitions of coach Jorge Sampoli.
Kyogo Furuhashi’s return to Britain marks a new stage in his career, after a less successful period in Rennes. This start-up is part of a broader strategy to restructure the staff of Stade Rennais, aimed at building a competitive team for the future. The club now focuses on developing young talent and acquiring players who can quickly integrate and contribute effectively to the team’s success.
