The MHSC is experiencing a new wave of departures, following that of Benjamin Lecointe. This time, Modibo Sagnan, the central defender, is about to join the Turkish club in Rizespoor, playing in the first division. His departure represented a significant loss for Montpellier, as he was one of the team’s most reliable players in the previous season, with 27 games played in Ligue 1 and an undisputed leader position in the defence. The operation is expected to cost Montpellier about two million euros, a modest but significant amount for the club. Sagnan is already in Turkey and has signed a three-year contract, subject to the success of his medical examination.
At the same time, Wahbi Khazri, released from his contract with the MHSC, joined the SC Bastia, his training club. This experienced player, having already worn the colours of Bordeaux, Saint-Étienne and Montpellier, is currently looking for a new challenge. After 87 matches and 6 goals scored with Montpellier, the 34-year-old Tunisian international, with 74 selections and 25 goals to his credit, maintains his fitness in Corsica, where Bastia integrated him into his professional group.
Finally, the MHSC actively inquired about goaltender Yann Liénard, AS Monaco’s third goaltender, to fill the gap left by Benjamin Lecointe’s departure. Although negotiations seemed to be advanced, a financial disagreement compromised the transfer. AS Monaco demanded that Montpellier take over the entire salary of the player, a proposal refused by the Hérault club, resulting in the likely abandonment of this track.
