Zaroury ready to leave Lens despite European interest and disappointing preparation

RC Lens is actively pursuing a policy of renewal, marked by a significant departure of key players since the summer of 2024. After a turbulent winter mercato that saw the departure of several important players such as Kevin Danso, Abdukodiir Khuasanov and Brice Samba, the club continued to separate from talents in the summer, including Facundo Medina, Neil El Aynaoui and Nampalys Mendy. This strategy seems to be continuing, with a particular player targeted for an imminent start.

Anass Zaroury, a Moroccan international offensive, could leave the RC Lens during the summer mercato 2025. Arriving from Burnley for over 5 million euros, the 24-year-old did not fully convince in his first season in Ligue 1, despite some encouraging statistics. His summer preparation under the direction of Pierre Sage did not meet expectations, and his profile does not seem to match the new coach’s game system.

Several European clubs, including Coventry City, Norwich City, Panathinaikos and Espanyol Barcelona, have shown concrete interest in Zaroury. The RC Lens thus paved the way for its start, although the player’s estimated value by Transfermarkt is 8 million euros, an amount that few clubs are ready to invest. Despite these rumours of transfer, Zaroury joined the Lens group for the preparation course at St. George’s Park in England.
