Rennes won his third game of preparation against Nantes (3-2), after a draw against Saint-Bréuc and a defeat against Brest. This match, played in camera, marked the first with the Rennes jersey of Valentin Rongier, a former Nantes player. Rongier started the encounter in a three-way field, alongside Ludovic Blas and Seko Fofana, in a system that proved effective in the first half. The Rennes game was facing to the right, with a notable use of Al-Tamari in the piston position. Kalimuendo opened the score in the first half of the hour, following a Meiété pass, but Nantes equalized via Leroux on a transition phase. Before the break, a combination between Blas and Rongeer on corner allowed Jacquet to score, after an intense deuffing.
The second half was more difficult for Rennes, with inaccuracies and physical duels less present than in the first period. Despite a lack of dynamism, Rennes managed to take the advantage thanks to a counter. Yildirim served Gomez, who scored at the second post, raising the score to 3-1. Nantes reduced the distance to a quarter of an hour from the end of the match thanks to Lepenant, but Rennes managed to keep its lead until the end of the game. This victory in preparation precedes a heavy programme for the Rennais, who will face the Real Sociedad in two games, then the Genoa at home on August 9, before the start of the Ligue 1 against Marseille on August 15.
The starting composition of Rennes included Samba, Al-Tamari, Hateboeer, Jacquet, Rouault, Nagida, Rongier, Fofana, Blas, Meiété and Kalimuendo. Changes were made in the second half, with the beginning of Alemdar for Samba, Bamba for Al-Tamari, Ait Boudlal for Hateboeer, Wooh for Jacquet, Faye for Rouault, Gomez for Nagida, Santamaria for Rongier, James for Fofana, Rieder for Blas, Yildiirim for Meiété and Salah for Kalimuendo. The scorers of the meeting were Kalimuendo, Gomez, Jacquet and Lepenant.
