Death of Jean-Pierre Adams: a national tribute in France
The world of football has been in mourning since Jean-Pierre Adams’ death was announced on Wednesday, March 21, 2023 at the age of 73. The former French international defender had been hospitalized for more than 39 years following a road accident that had led to complete paralysis.
President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the player on Twitter, calling him “French football figure” and welcoming his “exceptional career”. He also announced that a national tribute would be organized in his honour.
Jean-Pierre Adams was born in Dakar, Senegal, in 1949. Arriving in France at the age of 10, he began his professional career at the Olympic Nรฎmes before joining the Olympique de Marseille in 1973. He then moved to Paris Saint-Germain and RC Lens before ending his career in 1981.
French international 22 times between 1972 and 1976, Jean-Pierre Adams had participated in Euro 1976 with Les Bleus. He was also known for his commitment to fighting racism in football.
