LFP Media launches its new broadcasting platform, Ligue 1+, just days from the beginning of the 2025-2026 season, in a strategy to conquer football fans. Ligue 1+ will offer the French championship from 15 August, with an attractive launch offer: €9.99 per month for three months, before reaching a price of €14.99. According to Nicolas de Tavernost, CEO of LFP Media, this promotion is designed to familiarize the public with the platform and discourage piracy. This initiative is part of a difficult context for TV rights in France, and the LFP hopes to reach 1 million subscribers by the end of the season, with a long-term target of 2.2 to 2.5 million subscribers over four years.
The Ligue 1+ platform will broadcast eight games a day, the ninth of which will be broadcast on beIN Sports for the 2025-2026 season. However, the relationship between the LFP and beIN Sports is tense, with the channel paying only $14 million out of the 18 million agreed for the first phase of Saturday games. This aggressive launch offer is an attempt by the LFP to create a massive craze from the start, in order to fight piracy and enhance its flagship product, the French championship.
Despite the ambitions of growth, Nicolas de Tavernost acknowledged that the first two years would be particularly difficult in terms of financial resources. The launch strategy of Ligue 1+ is therefore crucial to ensure the financial viability of the platform and the sustainability of the distribution of the championship. By offering an attractive access price and relying on a quality content offer, the LFP hopes to retain a broad audience and consolidate its position in the sports broadcasting market. This initiative represents an important bet for the future of French football.
