Following injuries sustained during the match of the French team against Ukraine, Paris Saint-Germain published a communiqué concerning the state of health of Ousmané Dembélé and Désiré Doué. Ousmané Dembélé suffers from a tearing of straight ischio-legs and should be absent for six to eight weeks, while Désiré Doué has suffered a right calf injury and will be unavailable for four weeks. These absences are a hard blow for the PSG, as the two players will miss several important matches, notably against Olympique de Marseille, FC Barcelona and Atalanta.
The Parisian club expressed its deep concern and discontent to the Fédération Française de Football (FFF) via an official letter dated 4 September. The PSG blames the FFF for a lack of medical consultation and a management of recent medical cases deemed inadequate, citing the examples of Ousmane Dembélé and Lucas Hernández. The club also highlighted a history of similar incidents, with injured players kept in the group despite clinical situations incompatible with the competition. The GMP proposed solutions to improve medical communication, including the creation of a formalised protocol and the application of a strengthened precautionary principle.
Ironically, shortly after the mail was sent, Ousmane Dembélé’s injury was confirmed, confirming PSG’s fears and promising to revive controversy with the FFF. The prolonged absence of these two players will have a significant impact on Luis Enrique’s team, which will have to deal with these absences for the next games, including the first in the Champions League against Atalanta and the Classic against OM. Despite these difficulties, the Spanish coach remains confident about his team’s ability to overcome these obstacles.
