In a recent analysis of the show “Debats Foot Marseille”, Yacine Youssouf, consultant and ardent supporter of OM, highlighted the uncertain situation of Azzadine Ounahi. The Moroccan midfielder, who struggled to confirm the expectations placed in him since his arrival in January 2023, allegedly refused an offer from Russia. Youssouf believes that Ounahi could still prevail in Marseilles, provided that there is a real mental and sporting commitment. He insists that OM must offer an offer that meets the player’s ambitions, and that the sport dimension must be given priority. He believes that Unahi still has a role to play in Roberto De Zerbi’s collective, and that he could become a credible alternative in case of a decline in the form of other offensive circles, provided that he regains motivation and consistency. Youssouf regrets that the potential of the Moroccan international has not been fully exploited by OM, and that its departure is not seen as a loss for the team.
At the same time, Olympique de Marseille is actively seeking to separate from Neal Maupay during this summer mercato. Despite an irreproachable attitude, the English striker failed to convince the Olympian leadership with a score of 4 goals and 4 assists in 24 appearances. OM is willing to sell it for a symbolic amount of €5 million, in order to facilitate its departure, although the market is struggling to get over. Roads were explored in France, Turkey and Italy, but none were successful. Maupay, under contract until 2028, was not included in De Zerbi’s priority plans, which favoured other offensive options. This desire to separate from Maupay is part of a process of easing the number before the end of the mercato.
Finally, Mason Greenwood is considered a player not found by the management and the OM coach. Like Leonardo Balerdi, the English winger is seen as a centrepiece of the Marseille system, and his departure is therefore excluded. The possible arrival of Edon Zhegrova, at the end of the contract in 2026, is envisaged to expand the offensive options of De Zerbi, but would not be linked to a departure from Greenwood. OM intends to maintain a stable frame around key players like Greenwood and Balerdi, while pursuing an ambitious mercato. These two players are considered inviolable in the spirit of the Olympian staff, demonstrating a clear will to build around a solid core.
