PSG largely dominates the budgets of Ligue 1 despite the difficulties of Lyon and Mikautadze courted

L’Équipe published its annual ranking of Ligue 1 club budgets for the 2025-2026 season, confirming an undisputed dominance of Paris-Saint-Germain. The PSG has a colossal budget of €850 million, well above that of its direct competitors. Olympique de Marseille ranks second with 260 million euros, followed by AS Monaco with 140 million. Olympique Lyonnais, nicknamed the “Gones”, saw its budget fall compared to the previous year, in sixth place with 110 million euros, a level similar to Lille and Rennes but lower than Paris FC and Nice. This decrease is attributed to administrative difficulties encountered last June, which almost led to a demotion to League 2. However, the arrival of Michel Kanget and Michael Gerlinger helped stabilize the club’s finances.

Apart from the budget ranking, Olympique Lyonnais’ striker Georges Mikautadze is actively courted by the Eintracht Frankfurt. After a successful first appearance in the match against Lens, he refused the offers of Paris FC and Stade Rennais, expressing his desire to stay in Lyon. The most serious interest now comes from the Eintracht Frankfurt, which could position itself in case of departure of Elye Wahi, a player who arrived only six months ago. Olympique Lyonnais would not be willing to sell Mikautadze at the end of mercato, even in case of an interesting offer.

The complete budget rankings for Ligue 1 clubs are as follows: PSG (€850 million), OM (€260 million), Monaco (€140 million), Paris FC (€130 million), Nice (€120 million), Lille (€110 million), Rennes (€110 million), Strasbourg (€100 million), Lens (€60 million), Lorient (€60 million), Nantes (€50 million), Toulouse (€50 million), Auxerre (€40 million), Metz (€40 million), Brest (€35 million), Angers (€25 million) and Le Havre (€25 million). This situation illustrates the economic disparity between the Ligue 1 clubs, with a significant gap between the undisputed leader and the regatta teams.
