Lyon against Angers polemic jersey and recent critics

Olympique Lyonnais (OL) will face the Angers on Friday 29 September at the Groupama Stadium, a crucial match to bounce back after a defeat in Brittany and before focusing on its European deadlines. This meeting is part of a busy schedule, with a first trip to the Europa League against FC Utrecht on Thursday 25 September, followed by a new European home match against RB Salzburg on 2 October. Before the international truce, OL will receive Toulouse on Sunday, October 5. Coach Paulo Fonseca will have to manage the rotation of his staff to cope with this demanding series of encounters.

Adidas, OL’s official supplier, plans to reintroduce the 2010s style with a third “extraordinary” jersey for the 2026-2027 season. This decision contrasts with the fan preference for more sober jerseys inspired by the club’s history. This new stylistic direction follows previous controversial attempts, such as the yellow vest jersey in the match against Barcelona or the recent clown jersey in tribute to the city of Lyon.

OL’s defeat against Stade Rennais (3-1) was a strong controversy. Rennes coach Habib Beyene celebrated his team’s victory, which deeply upset the Lyon staff. Criticism was expressed by Paulo Fonseca’s deputy, Jorge Maciel, regarding the disrespect of Beyene and his team, as well as the behaviour of some Rennes supporters. In addition, Lyon midfielder Tyler Morton was expelled in the match against Rennes after a mistake on Kader Meïté, contributing to OL’s defeat. The ratings of OL players were also revealed for the next EA Sports FC 26 video game, with Corentin Tolisso as the best rated player.
