AS Monaco is entering the new Ligue 1 season with the ambition to stay among the first two teams and narrow the gap with Paris Saint-Germain. The club pursued a policy of economic recruitment, contenting itself with some low-cost transfers, including the arrival of Lukas Hradecky from Bayer Leverkusen and the free acquisitions of Paul Pogba and Eric Dier, supplemented by Ansu Fati’s loan. Thiago Scuro, managing director of the club, points out that the main objective for the season is to finish second behind the PSG, while trying to reduce the distance between them. He expresses a cautious optimism, recalling the second place obtained in 2024 and the conviction that concentration and vigilance in each match will achieve this ambitious goal.
Despite a summer marked by notable arrivals, AS Monaco could also experience significant departures. Maghnes Akliouche, a young Monegasque talent, is particularly targeted by several European clubs, including Manchester City. The club of the City of Light did not hesitate to invest to strengthen its workforce, with the hope of aiming at the top of the ranking. However, the value of some young players revealed last season attracts the attention of major clubs. Akliouche, in particular, is actively courted by prestigious teams, notably after Manchester City has included its name on its transfer list to strengthen its offensive sector.
Several European clubs, such as Bayer Leverkusen, PSG and Inter Milan, are also closely following Akliouche. Manchester City prefers its track to Rodrygo, due to a price difference. Under contract with Monaco until 2028 and estimated at 45 million euros by Transfermarkt, the young 23-year-old offensive milieu should leave the club before the end of the mercato. His departure would be a significant loss for Monaco, but an opportunity for the player to flourish in a larger club.
