Rennes strengthens for League 1 Merlin and Frankowski targeted

The Stade Rennais is actively engaged in the search for reinforcements to strengthen its workforce, according to the team, including targeting Quentin Merlin of the Olympique de Marseille and Przemyślaw Frankowski of Lens. The team was patient in its negotiations, considering that these processes take time. Priority is given to strengthening defensive sectors, with a particular need for laterals after the departures of Adrien Truffert and Lorenz Assignon. Merlin’s arrival could be facilitated by the involvement of Mehdi Benatia, OM football director, in the discussions. The competition between Mahaamadou Nagida and Mikayil Faye is also taken into account for the law side post.

Stade Rennais is about to start its preparation for Ligue 1 with a first friendly match against Olympique de Marseille, scheduled for Friday 15 August at home, which will be broadcast on the new Ligue 1+ channel. This game marks the beginning of the new channel’s coverage for the club. Team preparation started with a friendly match against Brest, which resulted in a 2-3 defeat. Despite initial domination, Rennes conceded two goals in the second period before closing the gap at the end of the game with goals from Yildirim and Faye, but Brest finally won the game on a corner.

For the second day of Ligue 1, Rennes will travel to Lorient on Sunday, August 24. The team continues its preparations with a new friendly match against Brest, which will take place on Friday 26 July in Nantes. Coach Habib Beye said the club is in time for its recruitments, highlighting the complex nature of the negotiations. The search for reinforcements, especially on the sides, is a priority for Stade Rennais, and Przemyślaw Frankowski, a former Lens player, is a privileged target. However, competition for this player is strong in Europe.
