Bitter defeat for OL U17: qualifying in danger

Team U17 of Olympique Lyonnais suffered a bitter defeat this Sunday in Nîmes, bowing to the score of 2 to 0, seriously jeopardizing his qualifying ambitions for the final phase. This counterperformance, which occurred after a brilliant victory in Grenoble the previous week, showed a clear contrast of form and efficiency. The objective of ensuring a place among the first two, crucial for access to the final phase, makes this loss of points particularly detrimental, given the difficulty of regaining a compromised position.

The match was characterized by a lack of biting and precision on the part of the young Lyonnais, who were apathetic and dominated in the duels against their opponents. The first half saw the Nîmes exert constant pressure, despite their own lack of frank opportunities, while Olympique Lyonnais could hardly create anything. The 43rd minute goal, the result of a remarkable roll-up strike, symbolized the difficulty encountered by the Lyon defence. The second period did not bring any significant improvement, with a first real Lyon opportunity appearing only at the 59th minute, and territorial domination did not translate into convincing opportunities.

This defeat now puts Olympique Lyonnais U17 in a difficult position in the second place race, with Cavigal Nice being able to take the lead at the end of day 24. The Lyon team has two crucial meetings to try to win this position, starting with the reception of the GOC Nice on 4 May. The Lyon staff aligned during this meeting included Axel Barreau (Captain), Velut, Moulot, Oanan, Negri, Di Nota, Bouabdellah, Mnamdji, Garcia, Walib Néchaba and Issiaga Soumah.
