Strasbourg Racing Club wins Montaigu World Football U16

The Racing Club of Strasbourg won the final of the Mondial Football in Montaigu U16 on Monday, winning its first title in this prestigious competition reserved for players under the age of 16. The Strasbourgers beat RC Lens to the shots (4-2) after a tie-down match (1-1).

This 2023 edition of the international tournament in Montaigu, which took place from 14 to 21 April in Vendée, highlighted the quality of the training centre of the Racing Club in Strasbourg. The young Strasbourg players have proved their talent on the international stage, against clubs such as Olympique Lyonnais, Stade Rennais, FC Nantes, OGC Nice and Saint-Étienne.

The victory of the Racing Club of Strasbourg in this competition is all the more significant as it is part of a long tradition of talent formation within the club. Since its creation in 1973, the Montaigu World Football Championship has been a springboard for many players who later became world football stars, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Didier Deschamps and Pavel Nedved.

Beyond the trophy won, this victory is a source of pride for the Racing Club in Strasbourg and a great opportunity for its young players to be noticed by the recruiters of the major international clubs present at the tournament.
