RC Lens formalized the arrival of Saud Abdulhamid, a Saudi right side, from AS Rome. The player is loaned for one season, with a financial agreement between the two clubs. This loan includes an initial payment of €500,000, with a purchase option of €3 million. A repurchase clause, estimated at EUR 3.5 million and benefiting Roma, is also included in the contract. This clause would allow the Roma to recover the player at the end of the season, once the loan is repaid and the purchase option is completed, making the transaction financially neutral for both parties if activated.
Saud Abdulhamid, 26 years old and Saudi international, joined RC Lens after a limited season with the Roma, where he played only eight games in all competitions. This loan represents an opportunity for the player to save playing time in Ligue 1 and to recover for the World Cup 2026. For Lens, the aim of Saud Abdulhamid’s arrival is to strengthen the law side position, offering a competition to Ruben Aguilar and an alternative to Pierre Sage, thanks to its dynamic and versatile profile.
Although this low-cost loan is an interesting opportunity for RC Lens, the €3.5 million buyback clause may prove to be unfavourable to the Lorrain club. Indeed, AS Rome could choose to activate this clause if Saud Abdulhamid achieves an excellent season, in order to sell it at a much higher price. This raises uncertainty as to the continued possession of the player by RC Lens beyond the current season.
