Champions' League 2025-2026: Opta predicts the stakes for French clubs

The Opta statistical analysis team published its predictions for the league phase of the 2025-2026 Champions League, a tournament that starts in less than two weeks. This historic edition will see 36 teams competing in an eight-game course to qualify for the next phase. Three French clubs, PSG, AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille, are among the participants and aim to rank among the 24 best teams. The GMP and OM, in particular, will face demanding schedules, but their objectives remain to qualify and, if possible, to aim higher.

Opta’s analyses indicate that the qualification will not be easy for these three teams. The Olympique de Marseille is predicted to be 31st out of 36, with a 37.31% probability of ranking in the top 24. Despite a difficult schedule, the Paris Saint-Germain was nevertheless considered a favourite, with a 5th place prediction and a direct qualification for the eighth final. The AS Monaco, for its part, will have more difficulties and will probably have to go through the dams, ranking 21st.

The newly-titled Paris Saint-Germain competed in this competition with a staff largely similar to that of the previous season, reinforced by three new recruits (Chevallier, Marin, Zabarnyi). UEFA recently released the list of 23 players selected by Luis Enrique for the upcoming season, with the notable absence of French defender Presnel Kimpembe. The Parisian club, as one of the favorites, hopes to confirm its status as a major player in the Champions League.
