Olympique Lyonnais (OL) is actively pursuing its summer mercato despite budgetary constraints. The club explores several avenues to strengthen its staff, notably in central defence, with a strong interest for Jan Ziolkowski of Legià Varsavie, Danilhho Doekhi of the Union Berlin and Daniele Rugani of the Juventus. OL is also actively looking for offensive reinforcements, having completed the arrival of Pavel Sulc from Viktoria Plzen for 7.5 million euros. This recruit, able to move on to the three positions ahead of the striker, is engaged for four to five years. At the same time, the club managed to convince Nicolas Tagliafico, an experienced left-wing defender, to extend his contract for two more seasons, a choice welcomed by the fans and considered essential to accompany the progress of the young players.
Nicolas Tagliafico’s extension is excellent news for OL, which relies on the experience of players like him to structure his team. Tagliafico, an Argentine international with 70 selections, is a key player both in terms of defensive and leadership within the group. Its return is seen as an important reinforcement in a rapidly changing workforce. This decision reflects OL’s ambition to combine experience and youth, a balance that the club seeks to maintain in order to achieve its national and European objectives. He became the third Argentinean to play four seasons in Lyon, following the footsteps of Lisandro López and César Delgado.
OL also prepared an intensive training program for August, including three friendly home games against Servette FC Chênois, FC Nuremberg and London City Lionesses, before an internship in Germany. This program aims to refine automations, give young players time to play and strengthen team cohesion before the championship starts in September. These preparations are part of a global strategy to strengthen the workforce, which also includes the arrival of other unspecified players, in order to meet the needs of the club and compete with the best European teams.
