LOSC wins Auxerre despite moments of nonsense
Lille - The LOSC won an important victory this Sunday against the AJ Auxerre (3-1), but the performance of the Lille players attracted criticism from their coach, Bruno Genesio. Despite an early hour dominated by Thomas Meunier’s goal and a double of Jonathan David, the LOSC came close to the catastrophe at the end of the game.
“The essential thing was to win,” said Bruno Genesio at a press conference. “It’s done, with pretty good things for an hour. We managed to widen the gap, but I regret our end of the game,” he added, stressing a lack of seriousness and reckless risk taking.
The Lille technician regretted that the team had “confus management and concern”, leading to risky passes and weakening the defence. He stressed the need to maintain a gap of at least two goals at the end of the game, particularly in a game where sanctions were numerous.
Despite these criticisms, the victory is precious for the LOSC, which temporarily climbs to fourth place in the standings. The Olympique de Lyon, third, must win its derby against Saint-Etienne to maintain its position.
“We all want to finish the season as high as possible,” concluded Bruno Genesio, stressing the density of the competition and the need to maintain the “same ingredients” to win the last four games of the season, notably against Angers, Olympique de Marseille, Brest and Reims. The podium race looks long and intense.
