The Olympique de Marseille is actively focusing on strengthening its workforce, particularly in defence, within the framework of the summer mercato. The club explores several avenues to meet its needs, with a priority on acquiring an axial central defender. Joël Ordóñez, Ecuadorian international from Bruges, is currently the main target, an agreement being possible for an estimated transfer of 30 million euros plus bonuses. If this negotiation fails, Alexsandro, Brazil’s central defender of LOSC, is considered a solid and promising alternative. The profile of Alexsandro, known for its physical strength, its ability to revive and its experience in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, is particularly appreciated by OM’s sports director, Mehdi Benatia.
Along with defence, OM is also considering strengthening its field environment. Matt O’Riley, Brighton’s talented offensive media, was identified as a potential player, with a strong interest from OM coach Roberto De Zerbi. Exchanges between O’Riley and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, the new Marseille recruit, suggest a possible advance in this case. However, the Juventus seems to have taken a lead in the competition for this player, which complicates the task of OM, which will have to offer a convincing offer to secure its services.
To complete these reinforcements, the Olympique de Marseille must separate from certain players in order to free up funds. Several departures are envisaged, notably those of Ruben Blanco, Azzedine Ounahi and Faris Moumbagna, in order to balance the budget and enable the club to achieve its defensive objectives. The team is about to face Rennes during the season recovery, but will be deprived of Facundo Medina, suspended for the first game due to an accumulation of yellow cards. OM therefore remains very active in the transfer market, seeking to refine its workforce for the coming season.
