The MHSC about to plunge into the forgotten League 1?
The situation of Montpellier HSC is desperate. Last of Ligue 1 with only 15 points on the counter, the pailladin club could be officially relegated to Ligue 2 this Saturday. A scenario that is a miracle, requiring a failure in the last five games, as well as a near-criminalization of AS Saint-Étienne and Le Havre AC.
An unlikely but possible scenario
To avoid the worst, the MHSC must therefore obtain the three points at home against the Olympique de Marseille, while hoping for a negative result for its direct competitors. The equation is complex and depends on external results.
** Major changes within the club**
Beyond the struggle for survival, MHSC is changing. Several executives, including the midfielder Teji Savanier (under contract until 2026), are clearly pushed towards the exit. According to Le Team, Savanier is accused of lack of involvement and of causing tensions within the group. Coach Zoumana Camara made it clear that the former captain was no longer in the club’s plans, making his departure this summer almost inevitable.
Other players, including Issiaga Sylla and Wahbi Khazri (whose contracts expire), will no longer be used by the end of the season. Camara intends to rely on young players like Wilfried Ndollo Bille, who was titularized in the last game against Angers.
Benjamin Lecomte and Jordan Ferri, linked until 2027 and 2026 respectively, are also at risk of leaving the club, in order to facilitate their departure this summer.
The game against OM: a major challenge
This Saturday evening, the Olympique de Marseille receives the MHSC (Ligue 1 – 30th day account) at the Orange Vélodrome. Widely preferred, OM finally has the opportunity to launch its final sprint, after a sequence of four setbacks in five matches. Coach Roberto De Zerbi called a group of 23 players. Captain Leonardo Balerdi is absent due to a sprained knee.
