Lyon recruits Šulc to strengthen its ambitious attack

Olympique Lyonnais formalized the arrival of Pavel Šulc, a Czech international offensive medium, from Viktoria Plzen. The club disbursed €7.5 million to secure its services, with potential bonuses of up to €2.5 million and an agreement of 15% on a possible added value for the previous club. Šulc signed a four-year contract with OL until 2029. At the age of 24, he arrived after an exceptional season (20 goals and 15 assists) that earned him a player of the year in his championship. OL has been actively targeting Šulc for several weeks, convinced by his creative and worker profile, and is counting on him to fill the gaps left by the departures of Rayan Cherki and Thiago Almada.

At the same time, the midfielder Jordan Ferri should leave Montpellier Hérault Sport Club (MHSC) to engage with Sampdoria in Serie B. This defect is part of a renegotiation for some players following the relegation of the MHSC to Ligue 2, the club wishing to favour the development of young talents. Ferri, trained at OL, should sign a one-year contract with Sampdoria, with an option for an additional year. His departure represents a loss to the MHSC, but allows the club to refocus on a youth-oriented recruitment policy.

Pavel Šulc’s arrival is part of OL’s ambitious offensive strategy, despite financial constraints. The club hopes that its recruitment will bring more creativity and dynamism to its field environment, thus enhancing its chances of remaining among the contenders in European places. The Lyon coach Paulo Fonseca does not plan to stop there and is considering further offensive reinforcements for the summer. Šulc, who has already taken his first steps in Lyon and has impressed with his talent and commitment, will soon have to adapt to the team’s style of play to fully flourish.
