The Racing Club of Strasbourg Alsace announces the return of the “blue trains” for the 2025-2026 season of Ligue 1. This initiative, the result of a partnership between the club, the Greater East Region, the Eurométropole de Strasbourg and SNCF Voyageurs, aims to facilitate the movement of fans between the Strasbourg station and the Meinau stadium for all home matches. This reactivation of the “blue trains” recalls the spirit of the 1970s, when these trains carried fans to the stadium, especially during the 1978-1979 season, which resulted in the club’s only French champion title. The main objective is to provide a convenient and user-friendly means of transport for fans, thus contributing to the atmosphere of home meetings.
At the same time, the Icelandic club of Víkingur Reykjavík made a master’s move by winning 3-0 against the Danish favourite Brøndby IF in the third preliminary round of the Conference League. This unexpected victory brings the Icelandic club closer to a potential encounter in the dam against the Racing Club in Strasbourg. Initially, majority opinion predicted a victory for Brøndby, due to his experience in European competitions and his best ranking. However, Reykjavík’s exceptional performance, with two goals on corner, completely reversed the prognosis.
The return match, scheduled for Thursday, August 14, will determine who will qualify for the next phase of the League Conference. Reykjavík’s victory offers an exciting prospect for the club and its fans, who see the opportunity to challenge the Racing Club in Strasbourg in a potentially memorable confrontation. This situation underscores the unpredictability of European competitions and the ability of teams to surprise their opponents, even when they are considered favourites.
