Monaco's brilliant victory over Marseille and back to second place

This Saturday afternoon, AS Monaco faced Olympique de Marseille at Stade Louis II, as part of the twenty-ninth day of Ligue 1. This duel between the third and the second of the rankings saw the Monegasques take over a great deal, correcting a Marseilles training which showed its usual weaknesses. Thanks to this victory, the ASM returned to second place, thus tightening the competition for the podium and qualifying in the Champions League.

The meeting was marked by a first period when the Olympique de Marseille lacked precision to create frank opportunities, in particular because of a Monegasque team firmly regrouped and able to master the duels. The opening of Takumi Minamino’s score was followed by a missed opportunity by Luis Henrique, who ideally placed, inexplicably missed his shot. The rest of the game saw the Monegasques take the ascendant with goals of Breel Embolo and Denis Zakaria, the latter sealing the fate of the encounter on penalty.

The AS Monaco won with a remarkable overall performance, incarnated by Denis Zakaria, appointed man of the game for his constant involvement in the field and his role as a decisive smuggler. This victory allowed the ASM to get closer to the Olympique de Marseille in the standings, while the Marseillais, marked by a fourth defeat in their last six games, saw their place on the podium threatened. The scores awarded to the players bear witness to Monegasque domination, with contrasting performances on the Marseille side.
