The women's LFFP Cup challenge

Asse’s women’s section is about to participate in the brand new LFFP Cup, an event marking a new era for women’s football in France. Launched in 2024, this competition brings together the 24 women’s D1 and D2 clubs, an initiative of the Ligue Fรฉminine de Football Professionnel and its president Jean-Michel Aulas to accelerate professionalisation and offer more attractiveness to fans. This competition, designed to balance the game and reduce travel, divides clubs into five geographic groups. The format provides points for victory in time for regulation, as well as a shootout session in case of equality. The first ones in each group have direct access to the quarter finals, while European clubs such as OL, PSG and Paris FC are exempt from the chicken phase.

Despite a difficult 2024-2025 season, marked by a relegation, ASSE maintained a notable television audience, notably during the game against OM, which captured 710,000 viewers. This figure, among the four best of the season, shows the club’s long-lasting appeal to the French public, beyond regional boundaries. This popularity, partly due to the history, the public and the rivalry with Marseille, is a major asset for broadcasters and the club’s partners. The audience shows that ASSE retains a significant media weight, even in Ligue 2, and remains a follow-up event in the French football landscape.

This media visibility is a valuable input for ASSE management, strengthening its position with sponsors and partners. For fans, it is a source of pride, confirming that the club leaves no one indifferent, even in difficult times. Participation in the LFFP Cup, with a favorable group against women’s D2 teams, offers ASSE an opportunity to be noticed and maintain its attractiveness. However, players will have to be vigilant against opponents who are used to high-level competitions.
