Ancient Greens shine in Europe and tensions around Ekwah

This weekend, many former players from AS Saint-Étienne distinguished themselves on different European fields. Anthony Briançon made a remarkable return with Pau, contributing to their victory and propelling them into the lead of League 2. Beres Owusu had a rough first in Austria with the Graz AK, despite a heavy defeat. Jonathan Bamba scored in MLS for Chicago Fire, while Denis Bouanga equalized for OM in Ligue 1. In Switzerland, Lamine Foambaa scored his first point for the Servette de Genève, and Pierre-Emérik Aubameyang scored a double for the Olympique de Marseille. Mostafa Mohamed shined in France with Nantes, despite the defeat of his team, and Jean-Philippe Krasso opened the score for Paris FC. Zoumana Camara, MHSC coach, saw her team get a draw in Ligue 1, with Nathanaël Mbuku contributing to the game.

AS Saint-Étienne formalized the lifting of Pierre Ekwah’s purchase option, a major investment of 6 to 7 million euros. This decision, taken without prior communication, surprised the player, who does not see himself evolving in League 2. Since then, he has not presented himself to the trainings, prompting a reflection among the club leaders on the measures to be taken. Relegation in reserve teams is envisaged in the event of a return to training, but the club remains open to negotiation or transfer to avoid prolonged conflict. Several European clubs expressed interest in Ekwah, but no concrete offers were registered.

The Saint-Étienne team faced Rodez at home for the first time in Ligue 2 this season. Coach Eirik Horneland provided an update on the status of the squad, noting that the group is still being rebuilt. Several players are still on their way, others are struggling to resume training, and the integration of recruits continues. Joshua Duffus is now qualified for the game, while Pierre Ekwah is a package, and Mahmoud Jaber is available. Horneland insists on the need to win to create a positive dynamic and avoid too early pressure in the season.
