On 20 August, Jean-Pierre Rivère officially left the presidency of GOC Nice, marking the end of a cycle that began in 2011. After a period of sports and financial instability for the club, the Nice businessman turned an institution into a major player in French football. It not only strengthened the professional team, but also structured the organisation, modernised infrastructure and attracted strong investors, including the INEOS group in 2019. His departure was not a break, he retained the role of ambassador and took over the chairmanship of the Fonds de Dotation of the Nice GOC, thus wishing to continue to contribute to the social and territorial development of the club.
Fabrice Bocquet, general manager since November 2022, succeeded him as head of the club. This appointment is part of the continuity of the project initiated by INEOS, and it benefits from the experience of several years spent managing the operational aspects of the club. Jim Ratcliffe, owner of INEOS, praised the role of Rivère, highlighting his commitment, his vision and the absolute commitment of INEOS to the club. Bocquet’s mission is to extend the work undertaken, by strengthening strategic functions and strengthening internal governance, with the support of key figures in the sport leadership.
Jean-Pierre Rivère’s style of leadership, characterized by discretion and consistency, contrasts with the more charismatic personalities that are often observed in modern football. He made a name for himself as a mediator within the League, thanks to his ability to anticipate and structure. Its legacy is that of a club anchored in a sustainable strategy, with a developed training centre and solid financial management. His departure left Fabrice Bocquet the challenge of transforming this stability into stronger ambitions, while maintaining a controlled financial trajectory. The future will determine whether this continuity will lead to further success for the Nice GCO.
