Rennes recruits Quentin Merlin European hope

Stade Rennais formalized the arrival of Quentin Merlin, a young left rear trained in Nantes, for a four-season contract. This transfer, estimated at 13 million euros, is replacing Adrien Truffert, who left in Bournemouth. Merlin, already experienced with 105 appearances in the championship, won the Coupe de France with Nantes in 2022 and participated in the semifinals of the Europa League with OM in 2024. The Rennes club, through its president Arnaud Pouille, highlights the player’s potential, qualified as talented, reliable and excellent teammate, a valuable asset to strengthen the defense.

In an interview, Quentin Merlin expressed his ambition to confirm his progress at Stade Rennais, a choice he considered thoughtful and obvious. It highlights the good infrastructure of the club, the presence of Valentin Rongier, with whom he has already worked, and Rennes’ ambition to return to Europe. Merlin presents himself as a leading player, ready to bring his energy, his experience gained in Marseille and his ability to encourage and help his teammates. He is aware of the rivalry with the Nantes fans, but determined to gain their confidence through his performances on the ground.

The player says he is eager to start and show his qualities, both sportingly and humanly. He wishes to take pleasure, continue his progress and collectively contribute to the qualification of Rennes for a European competition. After the Euro Espoirs, he prepares to meet this new challenge with enthusiasm, aware of the importance of his role and his willingness to invest fully for the club. This first game against OM is seen as an ideal opportunity to start this new stage in Red and Black.
