Lyon strong and Kumbedi divestment: OL in full change

Olympique Lyonnais managed to agree with Facundo Buonanotte, a young Argentinean right winger, for a loan to strengthen its workforce for the coming season. Initially, the Brighton, the original club of the player, hesitated to let him go, but the sport project proposed by OL, including the assurances given by the leaders and by Paulo Fonseca as to his place as holder, convinced the 20-year-old man. This success is part of a strategy to strengthen the team, announced by Matthieu Louis-Jean, which provided for other movements during this mercato period. However, a major obstacle remains: the Brighton only wants to lend Buonanotte to a Premier League club, in order to allow him to gain experience in England, as he had done with his loan to Leicester last season.

In parallel to this operation, Olympique Lyonnais prepares for the divestment of Saël Kumbedi in Wolfsburg, a German club operating in the Bundesliga. This decision is part of the club’s financial management policy, which requires liquidity. According to L’Équipe’s information, an agreement was reached between the two clubs for a transfer in the form of a €1 million paid loan, with a purchase obligation of €6 million. In addition, OL will receive a 15% surplus in case of future resale of the 20-year-old right wing, who should leave the club in the next few hours.

This double transaction reflects the activity of Olympique Lyonnais in the transfer market. If the club made a good start to the season, as Matthieu Louis-Jean had pointed out, other movements could still take place. The future of Saël Kumbedi, particularly in terms of wages, could also be affected by this transfer. The success of these operations will depend on OL’s ability to convince Wolfsburg to divest its players, while meeting its own financial and sporting needs.
