The Olympique de Marseille continues its summer mercato with the arrival of Pierre-Emérik Aubameyang, the fourth recruit of the team. This signature, confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, is a verbal agreement for a contract extending until June 2027. The 36-year-old striker, former Chelsea and FC Barcelona player, made a return to Ligue 1 after more than ten years spent in Saint-Étienne. This arrival was the result of a long-term work led by Pablo Longoria, Mehdï Benatia and Roberto De Zerbi, who were able to convince the player with the prospect of an ambitious sporting project and the possibility to compete in the Champions League. Aubameyang has declined important offers, including Saudi Arabia, to focus on sport and join OM.
The arrival of Aubameyang represents a major boost for OM, which seeks to strengthen its attack for the 2025-2026 season. The experienced player, with 30 goals from all competitions in his last season with OM, fits perfectly into Roberto De Zerbi’s offensive system. This signature marks a new stage in the team’s sport project, which aims to be more effective in attack. The officialization of the transfer is expected shortly, after the compulsory passage through the medical examination.
In parallel with this recruit, the other new recruit, Angel Gomes, has been shown during the trainings. The offensive medium has shown good technical qualities, notably with oriented control, a small jump and a perfectly placed strike. This performance demonstrates a good start to summer preparation and confirms the potential of the new Olympian recruit. Marseille fans can rejoice at Aubameyang’s return to France and his commitment to writing a new chapter in his history on the Canebière.
