While the TV rights of Ligue 1 remain without official broadcaster at two months of the takeover, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi spoke at the last office of the Ligue de football professionnelle (LFP) to defend the value of the French championship. Since his arrival at the head of Paris Saint-Germain in 2011, the Qatari president has constantly hammered his ambition to bring French football and club to the European level. In a tense context around television rights, where the championship struggles to attract broadcasters, Al-Khelaïfi wanted to recall the notable results of French clubs on the European stage this season. “I am president of the PSG but I am also very proud of our French clubs. We are one of the best championships in Europe today,” he said before mentioning the performances of Lille, Monaco and Brest against the European giants.
In private, Al-Khelaïfi said he was open to Nicolas de Tavernost’s proposals to find a solution to television rights, but it imposed a condition: to ensure minimum income for all clubs, especially the most modest ones.
