Descamps injury and Canal+ controversy: OL face uncertainty

Olympique Lyonnais (OL) is going through a difficult period with the injury of his goaltender Rémy Descamps. Having injured his wrist during the game against Stade Rennais, following a kick by Jérémy Jacquet, Descamps suffered a ligamentary injury that would keep him away from the field for about a month, making him unavailable until after the international truce. This absence paves the way for Domiink Greif, newly arrived at OL, who should make his debut in Lyon. This situation comes after a match against Rennes marked by arbitral errors, leaving a bitter taste for the players.

The next OL match, against Angers, will take place this Friday at 8:45 pm and will be arbitrated by Clément Turpin, assisted by Nicolas Danos and Benjamin Pages. Thierry Bouille is appointed fourth arbitrator, while Hamid Guenaoui and Bruno Coués will be responsible for the VAR. This meeting also marks the return of Stéphanie Frappart as arbitrator, after a recent controversy. Other arbitrators, such as Ruddy Buquet, will be assigned to important meetings, including Clasico.

Another point of attention concerns the broadcast of Europa League matches by Canal+. Although the channel holds the broadcasting rights, it will not be able to broadcast the match between OL and the Young Boys Bern because of the Swiss team’s sponsor jersey, Plus500, an investment company judged at risk by the French authorities. DGCCRF ordered Canal+ to cease broadcasting advertisements related to Plus500, under penalty of fine. Canal+ contacted UEFA to try to find a solution, but the Basel game will not be broadcast in France.
