A titular guardian and captain of AS Saint-Étienne, Gautier Larsonneur fights every weekend alongside his teammates to keep the club in the elite of French football. The doorman recently mentioned his role as captain and his attachment to the Stéphanois region in an interview with Radio Scoop.
“The role of captain is vast,” explains Gautier Larsonneur. He’s not just a armband on his arm. It is a great pride to wear it, but it also means managing many things both on and off the ground. It is necessary to be rigorous, to set an example and to impose a framework so that everyone stays in the right state of mind, concerned and involved. We are many to try to maintain this level of rigour within the group."
The Captain of the Greens also stressed the importance of the action as a captain: “Sometimes acts speak louder than words. It can be a stop, a strong gesture or simply a look that shows the way. Of course, it also happens to raise the tone and friction between us to move forward together. That is also the case, being captain. "
Arriving in the region in January 2023, Gautier Larsonneur had all the time to acclimatize to the Stéphanois region. “My connection to the region? I’m from the sea and a fisherman’s son. Here, what reminds me a bit of my home, is the Gorges de la Loire. I like going there to find a little taste of the sea, even if the salty air is missing. I also had the opportunity to discover other friendly places around Saint-Étienne, such as Saint-Victor, the Saint-Genest-Malifaux dam or Aurec-sur-Loire. We are lucky to have beautiful and very green corners where it is perfect to escape when we have some free time.”
