RC Lens continues its policy of strengthening and renewing its workforce. Following the departures of Goduine Koyalipou, loaned with option to purchase in Levante, and Sidi Bane, who engages with a Portuguese club, Anas Zaroury is now leaving the club. The Moroccan international player has officially signed for the Panathinaikos, as part of a loan including a purchase option set at 4 million euros. This option will become mandatory if the Greek club qualifies for a European competition. In case of qualification, Zaroury will then engage with the Panathinaikos until June 2029.
Although some suggest a possible loss of value of EUR 5 million, the transfer of Anass Zaroury did not represent such a high cost to RC Lens. The total amount of the transfer, including all the bonuses, is around 6 to 7 million euros, probably closer to 6 million. Taking into account the depreciation over the duration of its four-year contract, the Lansois club should therefore not incur a significant financial loss if the option to purchase is not exercised by the Panathinaikos.
The departure of Anass Zaroury now paves the way for the signature of Florian Thauvin, a player that sports director Jean-Louis Leca wanted to recruit at the previous summer mercato. The former Marseille player is about to join RC Lens. This arrival represents an important reinforcement for the team, allowing the club to continue its sporting project and maintain a high level of competition.
