Lucas Stassin, a golden recruit for AS Saint-Étienne
Transferred last summer for the record €10 million, Lucas Stassin quickly established himself as a major success for AS Saint-Étienne. The young Belgian attacker joined the Greens from the KVC Westerlo, sharing the club’s most expensive recruit title with Loïs Diony.
Since his arrival, Stassin has scored 11 goals in just 15 matches in all competitions, making him the best under-20 scorer in the five major European championships. This performance is all the more impressive as Stassin reached this total in just 15 games, compared to 26 for his main competitor Désiré Doué.
With an average of 116 minutes per goal, Lucas Stassin performed better than Doué, which scored every 156 minutes. Although the Parisian was more decisive overall with 19 direct contributions (11 goals and 8 assists), Stassin showed incredible regularity and great precision.
The PSG, on the other hand, achieved an almost perfect season with a record invincibility in Ligue 1 and a semifinal qualification in Champions League. Under the leadership of Luis Enrique, the club of the capital could become the first team to finish an undefeated season in the history of the League 1.
In addition to this record of invincibility, the PSG ran after several other historical records, such as the highest number of points in an 18-team championship, currently held by Saint-Étienne in 1969-1970. The club could also beat a team’s number of victories in a championship at 18 clubs, at the expense of Saint-Étienne.
The Paris Saint-Germain also aims to consolidate its own historical records, such as the highest points per match ratio and the record number of outdoor wins over a season. Finally, the club of the capital could exceed its own period of invincibility in the championship if it remains undefeated in the next eight Ligue 1 matches.
With these exceptional performances, Lucas Stassin and PSG write their name in French football history books.
