PSG Tax Buffon Zabarnyi Marin: Issues and perspectives

Paris Saint-Germain is faced with a financial obligation concerning Gianluigi Buffon, resulting from an Italian tax adjustment. The French court, by the Paris Court of Appeal, confirmed that the club had to pay up to 250,000 € net to the former guardian, in accordance with a contractual clause. This provision provided for 50% of the Italian income tax, up to a limit of € 250 000, in the event of a recovery before 31 December 2023. This is in addition to an initial recovery of more than €1.2 million for income earned between Turin and Paris. Despite a challenge from the club, the PSG appeal was dismissed, while Buffon’s claim for damages was denied.

In defence, the PSG is particularly interested in Ilya Zabarnyi, the Ukrainian defender of Bournemouth. After two rejected initial offers, the club prepares a third improved offer, estimated at approximately 70 million euros including bonuses, to convince the English club to divest the player. Zabarnyi has already given his verbal agreement to the PSG and would consider a contract until 2030, motivated by the desire to play in the Champions League and to progress in his career. Although rumours have evoked an interest in Tottenham, the player focuses exclusively on a transfer to Paris.

At the same time, the young goalkeeper Renato Marin, who arrived from AS Roma, is officially included in the PSG’s professional strength for the season. This decision confirms the staff’s confidence in its potential, despite initial doubts about its immediate integration. The goaltender situation is now a strategic topic for the club, with Gianluigi Donnarumma in discussion to extend his contract, Matvey Safonov eager to stay, and an uncertain future for Arnau Tenas, who aspires to more play time. Marin’s arrival is a bet on the future, but the management of this abundance of profiles by Luis Eintrigue and Luis Campos will be crucial.
