While the Olympique de Marseille decided to start an intensive preparation in Rome until the end of the season to maximize its chances of qualifying in the Champions League, RMC Sport consultant Stephen Brun casts doubts on this strategy. The time has come for general mobilization on the side of OM. Stuck in a tense end of the season and still competing for a place on the Ligue 1 podium, Roberto De Zerbi’s men made a strong decision: a prolonged preparation stage in Rome, far from the Marseilles agitation, until the end of the championship. The goal is clear: to strengthen ties, to block, and to focus 100% on the Champions League goal. But this method, although praised by some as a sign of strong commitment, does not convince everyone. On RMC Sport, on the show Le Moscato Show, Stephen Brun expressed his doubts: “At this stage of the year, I would have been drunk. Living 24 hours a day together can also create tensions. I feel that De Zerbi is doing this to escape the Marseille environment,” he explained on RMC Sport.
This Roman camp, seen as a way to “cut noise” around the club, could also have its setbacks. Because living together 24 hours a day, in a climate of intense sports pressure, is not without risks. Psychological wear and tear, promiscuity, and lack of connection with relatives can produce the opposite effect of the expected one.
On RMC Sport, on the show Rothen S’enflamme, Christophe Dugarry reacted with some resentment to this initiative: “What shockes me a bit is that once again at OM, we hit the players’ minds. And we have the impression that the only problem is players who are kids, unable to concentrate, stand together or spend time together. If there are problems inside the club you have to fire these people, it shockes me!”, said the former Olympian attacker (1998-2000). Dugarry went on to point out a form of mental fragility within the group: “It also shows a form of febrileness anyway. They are on several consecutive defeats, I think they doubt and are afraid to fail. It’s not easy to be OM leader, coach or player.”
