Muscle injury for Renato Sanches: a new absence for Portuguese international

Despite a victory and a title won in the League Cup, Renato Sanches’ return to Benfica Lisbon is far from a success. The Portuguese player is once again the victim of a muscle injury that takes him away from the field for a period of between six and eight weeks. Since his arrival in Benfica, loaned by Paris Saint-Germain last summer, the Portuguese international has been unavailable four times due to physical problems to right adductors, right thigh and left thigh (twice). This new injury came as Renato Sanches was titularized for the first time of the season in a win of the Benfica (3-2) against SC Farense. Unfortunately, he had to leave the field from half-time, the victim of this new injury to the left thigh.

The question of Renato Sanches’ salary became a matter of concern in Portugal. According to MaisFutebol, half of his salary would currently be paid by Paris Saint-Germain, while the player would have sports insurance to cover the payment of his salary during his periods of inactivity.

The future of Renato Sanches remains unclear, especially because of his numerous injuries. Questioned on this subject, Bruno Lage, coach of the Benfica, said: “Don’t get me wrong, the present and the immediate future only concerns the reception of Tirsense (victory 4-0 on Wednesday 23 April) and I will respect the importance of the stakes. I will be happy to answer this question at a next press conference, let’s say next month.” Thus, the future of Renato Sanches remains uncertain, and he may be absent until the end of the season that occurs on the weekend of May 17, as well as for the World Cup of Clubs held in June and July in the United States.
