Lyon young seasons contrasting hopes and challenges

Olympique Lyonnais experienced a contrasting sporting season in 2024-2025, with significantly different performances between its U17 and U19 teams. Team U17, led by Amaury Barléton, posted promising potential, ranking third in his group with 12 wins, 7 draws and 7 losses. Despite a constant struggle for a play-off qualification, the last two defeats have unfortunately compromised their chances of winning the French title in this category. This season shows an encouraging future for this young generation in Lyon.

On the other hand, the U19 team had a more disappointing season. Initially led by Jordane Gonzalez and then by Samy Saci, the team finished eighth in the championship, with 11 wins, 2 draws and 13 losses. Their course in the Gambardella Cup ended in the eighth finals against Bastia, after a game at the goal. This season also marks a change of leadership, with Samy Saci taking over from Team U17 and Florent Balmont succeeding Jordane Gonzalez to lead Team U19.

Both teams will resume the competition on August 24. The U17 team will be included in Group B, composed of AJ Auxerre, ASPTT Dijon, AS Saint-Priest, Clermont Foot 63, Dijon FCO, ESTAC Troyes, FC 93 Bobigny, FC Metz, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, Montfertil FC, Olympique Lyonnais, RC Strasbourg Alsace, SC Schiltigheim and Stade de Reims. The U19 team will be in Group C, with AJ Auxerre, AS Illzach Modenheim, ASPTT Dijon, Dijon FCO, ESTAC Troyes, FC Annecy, FC Lyon, FC Metz, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, Olympique Lyonnais, Racing Besançon, RC Strasbourg Alsace, US Thionville Lusitanos and US Torcy PVMF.
