Derby Rhonalpin en Émoi: Medical Problems and Incident of Supporters in Geoffroy-Guichard
Saint-Étienne, 20 April 2025 - The derby between AS Saint-Étienne and Olympique Lyonnais, counting for the 30th day of Ligue 1, was marked by incidents and medical problems, making the meeting particularly chaotic.
The game, which announced itself as an intense confrontation, started with a quick goal from Stéphanois striker Lucas Stassin in the 10th minute. However, the meeting quickly took an unexpected turn. Just before half-time, an ASSE supporter launched a projectile on the assistant referee, Mr. Rahmouni, touching his skull. The incident led to the interruption of the game and the release of the assistant referee, who took a Doliprane to relieve his dizziness.
In response to this incident, the derby’s delegate, Noël Mannino, decided to return to the changing rooms and resume the meeting. A crisis cell was activated and an identification procedure was launched to track down the projectile jet.
At the same time, medical problems struck Olympique Lyonnais. After a bad fault of Lucas Stassin at the 28th minute, the midfielder Corentin Tolisso was hit in the knee and came out on stretcher. RMC Sport sources indicate that he would suffer from a “small sprain”.
The central referee, François Letexier, had initially sanctioned Lucas Stassin with a red card, but the VAR questioned this decision, and the referee finally cancelled the card, creating the incomprehension of Lyon players, notably Alexandre Lacazette. The exit on Tolisso stretcher did not allow to review the decision a second time.
Despite these complications, the meeting resumed at 10:15 p.m. The game ended with a draw between the two teams.
