Rabiot Ordóñez and Ouahni: OM between stakes and transfers

Adrien Rabiot’s future at the Olympique de Marseille is currently uncertain, sparking much discussion and speculation. Pablo Longoria, OM President, has clearly expressed his willingness to keep the player, stressing that the door to his office remains open. This conciliatory position comes after a period of rumours about Rabiot’s possible departure, following an altercation with Jonathan Rowe and his placement on the transfer list. Coach Roberto De Zerbi also sent a message to try to calm the situation, stressing the player’s human value and potential for redemption. Despite these efforts, the outcome of this case remains uncertain as the end of the mercato approaches.

At the same time, OM is actively pursuing its defensive strengthening efforts. The club has a clear priority: recruit Joel Ordóñez, Ecuadorian central defender of Bruges, considered the ideal successor to Leonardo Balerdi. However, this track will be complex due to Bruges’ high price and the lack of direct contacts between the two clubs. In case of failure on Ordóñez, OM could turn to Benjamin Pavard, an experienced Inter Milan player, although his high salary represents a financial obstacle.

Finally, Olympique de Marseille formalized the transfer of Azzadine Ouahni to Girona for 6 million euros. The Moroccan midfielder, who did not manage to win a long-term victory in Marseille, privileged this opportunity to evolve in Liga and increase his chances of qualifying for the World Cup 2026. This transfer, made possible thanks to the Girona financial model, represents a solution for OM who wanted to find a way out for the player. The lack of compensation for SCO Angers, which had a clause in Ouahni’s contract, is also notable.
