Lamine Fomba ready for a new European challenge

Pre-season is often an opportunity for players to be noticed, and Lamine Fomba, midfielder of ASSE, is an example. Arrived in Saint-Étienne two and a half years ago, he was long relegated to the background. However, this summer preparation seems to give him confidence, and he has demonstrated good qualities in friendly games. His talent has already attracted the attention of a Swiss club, the Servette, which even planned to recruit him recently.

Originally recruited in January 2023 from Nîmes, Fomba had successfully started in the green colours, imposing himself as a key player of the team during the recovery of the club and its retention in Ligue 2. The arrival of Florian Tardieu the following season, however, changed his situation, and coach Olivier Dall’Oglio offered him little title in the championship. Despite a regular presence in the group, he ran out of play time, although he had a few precious minutes during the return barrage against Metz, which allowed ASSE to go up to Ligue 1 and extend his contract until 2026.

Despite this commitment, the future of Lamine Fomba remains uncertain. Already mentioned in previous mercatos, it could be tempted by a new challenge this summer. During this pre-season, he stood out, scoring a good goal against the Star Carouge and delivering a decisive pass against Troyes and the Servette Genève. A buy-back offer was being prepared by the Swiss club, which could offer it the opportunity to discover the Champions League if the negotiations materialize and if the Servette succeeds in his confrontations with Plzen.
