The ASSE stands in an electric derby facing OL
Saint-Étienne – Lyon (2-1)
In a derby with an electric atmosphere, ASSE won a precious victory against Olympique Lyonnais this Sunday. The final score is 2-1, a victory that will strengthen the morale of the Greens and raise questions among the Gones.
From the start, Eirik Horneland and his players put pressure on OL, quickly overtaken by the intensity of Stéphanois. Lucas Stassin opened the score in the 10th minute, with a head pricked on a petrot center, scoring his 11th goal in Ligue 1 this season. The Greens continued with Davitashvili missing an opportunity to double the bet at the 36th minute.
The game experienced a moment of tension at the 23rd minute, when Stassin was expelled for a sole on Tolisso. After VAR intervention, red became yellow, triggering controversy. Tolisso had to go out on stretcher shortly after.
The atmosphere deteriorated again shortly before the break with an incident in the gallery, requiring an interruption of almost 20 minutes.
At the recovery, Lyon tried to react, but Stassin scored at the 67th minute, taking advantage of an error of recovery. With twelve achievements this season, he blew up the stadium again. Ekwah and Mouton approached 3-0.
Despite a much higher Lyon possession (59.1%), St. Lyon reduced the gap to 76th thanks to Tessmann, while Maitland-Niles hit the pole. Mikautadze and Fofana were dangerous, but the Stéphanese defence remained solid. The Lyon replacements, including Almada and Cherki (out with the whistles), did not make a difference.
This victory is all the more important in a difficult season for ASSE, and gives a new boost to a Lucas Stassin in shape. For OL, this game raises serious questions.
