OL's financial difficulties and possibilities for reinforcement or liquidity

Following the departure of Rayan Cherki, Olympique Lyonnais (OL) finds itself with few players with significant market value. Among those who could potentially leave the club to raise funds are Malick Fofana, Lucas Perrini and Georges Mikautadze. The Georgian player is particularly courted by AS Rome, which has already made a first offer of 18 million euros, although OL hopes to get about 20 million for this transfer, in order to realize a gain from its initial investment. There are also rumours that Sunderland, recently promoted to the Premier League, is closely following the development of this case. Negotiations are under way and could be concluded in the coming days.

At the same time, OL formalized the departure of its central defender Jérémy Mounsese, who joined Querville-Rouen in the National after signing his first professional contract with the club. This young player, who won the Gambardella Cup in 2022, thus left the Lyon training centre to launch his professional career. His departure represents a loss for the club, but he could leave some additional resources for the future.

Faced with the club’s critical financial situation, Jean-Michel Aulas, former OL president, has committed to helping by contacting various people and meeting with the new president, Ms Kang, as well as Michael Gerlinger. He is confident of the new team’s ability to find solutions to ensure OL’s survival in Ligue 1, in particular by negotiating with the DNCG, which demands a large sum and financial guarantees. Considerable efforts are being made to reach agreement and to prevent the club from finding itself in a disastrous financial situation.
